Explanation about used permissions:

FULL INTERNET ACCESS — to send app stack trace when it crashes. No personal data.

READ PHONE STATE AND IDENTITY — to detect when a phone call is made, so recording can be stopped to prevent audio corruption. Phone numbers, IMEI, or other serial numbers are not accessed at all.

MODIFY/DELETE USB STORAGE/SD CARD CONTENTS — to store recordings in USB or SD card storage.

Distortion: Why can I not get rid of the distortion when at church or in a concert type venue? Lowering the gain doesn't fix it.

I bought the full version. I wanted to record in an office or small room. I have very good results when I used 96kbs and "+10db gain." Wishlist: 1. With the other party's permission, I sometimes record both sides of my telephone conversation using an Olympia recorder. It's a useful capability. It would be great if I could do that somehow with Hi-Q MP3 Recorder. 2. It would be great to be be to edit the resulting MP3 files directly in Hi-Q using something similar to a simplified Wavepad (NHC).

I've tried all top downloaded voice recorder and Hi-Q MP3 Recorder is simply the best. I like it's simple yet clean look. And it works extremely well. I had problems with some other recorder that would not record more than 30 min. Hi-Q passes that test with flying colors. Runner up would be RecForge but there is some issue with it on my Galaxy S II.
