First, and probably the most overlooked way to relieve your back pain is by getting some good old fashioned rest. If your back pain is do to strain or some other minor injury, 3 days of rest will do wonders for you. You can also take aspirin or any other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug to help ease the inflammation. Please note that too much bed rest can have a negative affect on your recovery. It could make the process slower and even cause more problems. So after 2 or 3 days you should start moving around a bit. Get up and walk around. Try to do some gentle stretching to avoid any further injury to the back. Now if your pain is more severe and it keeps you from being able to perform your everyday activities as usual, you might want to visit your doctor to have a stronger pain medication prescribed. Be aware that most of the prescribed pain medications will have a big effect on your brain and cause you to be drowsy. So be careful. Usually for severe back pain you will be prescribed medications such as Vicodin or Percocet. Both of these can be very addicting so never use them on a long term basis. In the situation that your doctor is unable to help you control the pain, you might be referred to a back or pain specialist. This would be someone like a therapist or rehabilitation counselor. Remember if you start early there is more than likely chances that you will have no long terms pain to deal with.Being informed about the condition, understanding the root causes and learning about what you can do about it is crucial when it comes to dealing with back pain. Put your focus on learning about the condition and strategies you can adopt to manage it.
