A Review of Pix: Pixel Mixer for Android
It never ceases to amaze me how many times companies can make the same kind of Android app, but still manage to make it different and stand out. Such is the case with a new Photo editing app Pix: Pixel Mixer from colonO. It may have a lot of the same functions as other older apps, but it manages to make photo filters fun and it’s a breeze to use.
When you first fire up Pix: Pixel Mixer you’re given the option to take a picture or select one from your phone. You’re then taken to the main screen where everything is laid out nicely along the bottom; the interface is very clean and simple to use. The app allows you to easily scroll through the effects by simply flicking the filter column, and each filter or layer has its own little preview bubble. If you see a filter with multiple dots it means you can strengthen the effect 1x every time you push the button, and if you want to remove one all you need to do is tap it or click the trash can to get rid of them all.
Pix: Pixel Mixer gives you a wide range of options with over 30 filters, 24 film layers, and 16 different frames. I was really impressed by some of the filters and layers, the Shrek, Horror, Memory, Deep Sea, and Clay Wall were just a few of my favorites. The app also makes sure you never forget a great filter combo with its handy “favorites” feature that stores all of your favorite combinations. Once your masterpiece is finished you can save it or send it out into the world via Facebook, Bluetooth, Gmail, etc, etc.
I’ve probably tried most of the photo editing apps out there, and I was really impressed by how easy and fun Pix: Pixel Mixer was to use. There are a lot of different filters and layers to play with and the app lets you choose and apply them quickly. I tested it out on my old Captivate running ICS, and it ran like a champ; the processing times were surprisingly quick as well. If you’re looking for a good photo editor you’ll definitely want to check this one out. You can pick up colonO’s Pix: Pixel Mixer on Google Play for free.
