Android: 55.5% Run Android 2.1, Only 3.3% Run Android 2.2
Android is divided between four different versions: Android 1.5, Android 1.6, Android 2.1, and Android 2.2. Before, Android 1.5 and Android 1.6 were the most popular versions of Android in use, but as of July 15, it seems Android 2.1 has taken over. Only about 18.9% run Android 1.5, 22.1% run Android 1.6, a whopping 55.5% run Android 2.1, and only 3.3% run Android 2.2. It’s not really surprising that such a small percentage are running Android 2.2 considering the only device it works on is the Nexus One. However, it is nice to see the majority of Android users sporting a newer version of the OS.
The graph above shows the relative share of each Android OS and it is quite obvious Android 2.1 takes up the most space. Hopefully by the end of the year, most devices will be running Android 2.2 and we will see Froyo take up the most space.
