Best Buy Starts Droid X Pre-Orders Round 2
The Motorola Droid X was offered as a pre-order starting June 25 in Best Buy stores but abruptly ended five days later. It seemed Best Buy couldn’t take any more pre-orders and promise that they would have the phone in stock on July 15 (launch day). In order to please customers who still wanted to pre-order a Droid X, Best Buy decided they would allow Droid X pre-orders for six days but they would not guarantee availability on launch day. Essentially, eligible or new Verizon customers could place a pre-order for the Droid X in all Best Buy stores starting today and ending July 10, but Best Buy cannot and will not guarantee the pre-ordered Droid X would be available on July 15. A few questions were asked regarding pre-orders in the Best Buy Community forums and you can read the questions and answers below:
Does pre-ordering the Droid X by Motorola at Best Buy® guarantee me a phone on launch day?
No. However, we do fulfill pre-orders in the order they were placed.
Did Best Buy® take pre-orders for the Droid X by Motorola?
Yes. We began accepting pre-orders for the Droid X on June 25th, 2010, but we stopped taking pre-orders on Wednesday, June 30th, 2010.
If I pre-ordered the Droid X by Motorola at Best Buy®, does that mean I am supposed to get it on launch day?
Ideally, yes. But, this is not supposed to be guaranteed and is completely dependent on how many the store receives from the supplier. Any inventory received will be used to fulfill outstanding pre-orders in the order they were placed. For example, if the store has twenty pre-orders on launch day but only received fifteen phones, then the first fifteen pre-orders should receive their phone on launch day.
There is a chance Verizon could run out of Droid X devices on launch day, making the idea of pre-ordering with Best Buy an enticing one. However, at this point I would probably go to a Verizon store early on July 15 to make sure I can purchase a Droid X.
