Dig Deep with Gem Miner 2 from Psym Mobile

Overview

Over the weekend gamers got a nice surprise with a new Android game from Psym Mobile called Gem Miner 2. We finally got a sequel to the original Gem Miner and after spending a little time with it, I can safely say you’re not going to be disappointed with the follow-up.

When you first fire up the game you’ll quickly notice that things are different as you are required to do the tutorial before getting into the game. It’s a short 5 stage tutorial that takes you through the basics of the game; great for newcomers but I do wish you could skip it for those of us who’ve played the game before. Once you’ve gotten through the initiation you can go into freeplay or expeditions which is the heart of the game. As for the new features, Gem Miner 2 has bigger mines along with new tools, hazards and ore. You can also use a virtual joystick this time around which is a big change although you can stick with the classic control setup if you prefer. Another new feature I noticed in the market description is the support for Google TV’s. I don’t own one, but the fact that Psym made their new game compatible with Google TV’s is pretty cool in itself.

Verdict

The original version of Gem Miner is one of my all time favorites, and I was pretty pumped up to see the new version drop Friday afternoon. The basics of the game are still the same, and while there are plenty of new additions the biggest difference I noticed were the graphics. They are much more cartoonish this time around; it’s not a bad thing just takes a little getting used to when you’ve played the original for a year. Overall, Gem Miner 2 is a fun game and a great sequel to the original. You can find Psym Mobile’s Gem Miner 2 for $1.99 in the market.
