Droid 2 World Edition Might Feature a 1.2 Ghz Processor!

Droid 2 World Edition

Motorola plans to release the Droid 2 outside the US under the tag name of Droid 2 World Edition (WE). Documents leaked earlier suggested that the phone might see a launch event this month, but that seems very unlikely now since no formal announcement has been made so far by the company.

But if the latest rumors about the phone are to be believed, the Droid 2 WE might come packed with a processor pegged at 1.2 Ghz. The guys at Droid-Life were able to run quadrant benchmarks tests on the phone and were surprised to get the CPU readings at 1200 Mhz. FYI, the original Droid 2 is powered by the OMAP 3620 processor made by Texas Instruments clocked at 1 Ghz.

The Quadrant tests revealed the score of 1566 in the first run but an unbelievable 1709 in the second run. That apart, the phone’s linpack is said to be around 16.499 which sort of highest for the Texas OMAP processors.

For those holding on to their dear wallet to purchase the Droid 2 WE as and when it releases globally, the wait will be totally worth if it really ships with the higher clocked 1.2 Ghz CPU since it will boost the speed of the phone thereby making it more responsive and fun.

Other confirmed specs of the Droid 2 Word Edition include 3.7 inch screen (sounds little old!), physical QWERTY slider keyboard, 5 MP camera and Android 2.2 from day one, just like the original Droid 2. It will also feature the Motorola’s custom UI in the form of Blur, that you already saw on the Droid X and Droid 2.

Let us know if you’re waiting for the release of Droid 2 World Edition and whether the phone is up to your needs.
