FEMA Android App Might Save Your Life During Emergency

Reports had it that the East Coast is being threatened by Hurricane Irene. If you’ve monitored the weather update and found that your place is on its path. Or even if not now, who knows what disaster is going to happen in the near future – you definitely want to be prepared at all times. The good news is that the U.S.  Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is there to help you during emergency situations. In fact, FEMA has just released/updated its Android app just in time for Hurricane Irene’s arrival in the East Coast.

The FEMA Android App provides you with preparedness information for different types of disasters. It features an interactive checklist of emergency kits, section to plan emergency meeting locations, information on how to stay safe and recover after a disaster, a map with FEMA Disaster Recovery Center locations and shelters, ways you can get involve before and after a disaster and link to the FEMA blog.

Additionally, the FEMA Android app also includes a new and separate service wherein you can opt to receive text messages from FEMA. You simply need to send the text message – PREPARE to 43362 to sign up.  In addition, you might also want to text SHELTER + your ZIP code to 43362 to find the nearest shelter in your area.

The FEMA Android app is available as a free download from the Android Market.
