Gameloft releases The Oregon Trail: American Settler for Android
It’s been a truly awesome week of gaming if you like Android Games, and the week just got a little better thanks to Gameloft. They gaming giant struck again today as they went and put out a new Android Game called The Oregon Trail: American Settler. Gameloft’s new version of the old classic Oregon Trail is called “American Settler” for a good reason; the first game may have been about the journey, but this one’s about life after you arrive in town.
You basically follow the storyline which picks up after the family’s arrival from their journey down the trail. You get to do all the basics like building houses, planting crops, and collecting materials; gold & Xp will be your rewards and of course every action you take will cost you some energy. Basic stuff really as anyone who plays building games knows; they all run off the same basic setup and there’s nothing different in that department. The graphics on the other hand are definitely unique and so are the mini-games. Yup, we get to hunt and fish just like in the old game which is pretty awesome in itself. Throw in bandit attacks, historic encounters, stampedes, and a slew of missions and you’ve got yourself a pretty damned good game.
Verdict
Some of the things you loved about the original seem to still be present as the mini-games and Dysentery make appearances, but for the most part this is a brand new game. The little world Gameloft built for this version of the Oregon Trail looks great, and in the brief time I’ve spent with the game I can confidently say you’ll want to check this one out. As I’m a fan of the original you can count on a full review coming up in the next few days. You can get Gameloft’s The Oregon Trail: American Settler in the Android market for free.
