Google Enables Video Chat via GTalk on Android Phones
The official Google Mobile Blog has just that it will be gradually rolling out video and voice chat for Android phones via Google Talk app. While this may sound rather a little especially since there are various third-party Android apps which enables this feature already, Google is putting the feature one step ahead by allowing you to video or voice chat with your friends, family and colleagues using your Android phone while they are using another Android phone or Android tablet or using Gmail with Google Talk on their computer. Video or voice chat can be made through 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi.
To be rolled out first for Google Nexus S users, once this feature is activated, a voice or video chat button will appear next to your contacts on your Google Talk friends list. Simply hitting the button will initiate the video or voice chat. Another nice feature is the fact that text chats that you receive from your contact will be overlaid on your phone’s screen, allowing you to read them while keeping the video chat session on. The video also pauses whenever you want to check out something on your Android phone’s homescreen.And, you can still hear your contact’s voice even when the video has been paused.
Google Talk video and voice chat will start hitting Google Nexus S together with the roll out of Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread updates in the next few weeks. Other Android phones will have the same updates in the coming months or so. To see how the voice and video chat works, watch the video demo below.
