Google Makes Maps App for Android More Useful, Even When You’re Walking

Google has just rolled out several enhancements to Maps for Mobile Android app. Specifically, the Maps application for Android has now been put to state similar to its desktop counterpart. So, aside from the Navigation and Walking features that were previously rolled out to the Maps for Mobile app, the features are now integrated to bring you Walking Navigation.

With Walking Navigation, you can now utilize pedestrian paths and other easier-to-use and faster routes than what driving navigation usually gives you. If you’re familiar with Google Maps for Desktop, Google Maps for Mobile 4.5 for Android also now lets you use Street View smart navigation by dragging and dropping the Pegman icon to specific locations where you want to go to.

In addition to those new features, Google has also rolled a new search bar that will be displayed on top of your Android phone’s screen. This search bar is useful for searching  Google Maps, checking out Places, using the Layers menu, or for instantly zooming in on your current location. If you’re looking for specific places, the Search Bar lets you filter search results by distance or ratings, view prices and see cross streets for places.

To use these features, you need to update your Google Maps and Street View on Google Maps installations on your Android phone. You can get these updates from the Android Market now. Or tap on these Market Links using your Android phone  to install the updates.  (Google Maps for Mobile 4.5, Street View on Google Maps)
