HTC Droid Incredible Ship Date Pushed Back To August 3
In the never ending HTC Droid Incredible saga, today we learned the ship date has been pushed back even farther to August 3. Due to a shortage of AMOLED displays manufactured by Samsung, HTC had no choice but to slow production to a crawl resulting in shortages on the online Verizon store. HTC has pondered switching to a different display, but doing so may cause uproar with customers because the AMOLED screen is of higher quality than LCD screens.
Verizon has already written letters of apology to customers who pre-ordered the smartphone and promised $25 gift cards as a reparation. In addition, Verizon is advocating customers to switch their pre-order from the MIA Droid Incredible to the soon to be available Droid X. HTC can’t be happy since they would lose potential business and revenue if customers switch their pre-orders. I could see why customers would switch their pre-order to the Droid X for a few reasons. One, the Droid X has better specs and is the latest and greatest Android phone currently offered on Verizon. Second, they cost the same, so it makes sense to go for the better phone. Third, the Droid X will launch on July 15, which is already a few weeks ahead of the promised ship date for the Droid Incredible.
It will be interesting to see what customers decide to do as the launch date for the highly anticipated Droid X comes closer and closer.
