HTC To Use SLCD Displays For HTC Desire and HTC Nexus One

HTC has had a hard time keeping up with smartphone demand for devices that use Samsung’s 3.7 inch AMOLED display, namely the HTC Desire and the HTC Nexus One. Since Samsung cannot keep up with demand, causing many shortages, HTC decided to switch from AMOLED displays to Super LCD displays in the HTC Desire and Nexus One smartphones.

Peter Chou, CEO of HTC, had this to say on the display switch:

“HTC is experiencing high-demand for many of our phones, specifically our phones with 3.7 inch displays. The new SLCD display technology enables us to ramp up our production capabilities quickly to meet the high-demand,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “The SLCD displays provide consumers with a comparable visual experience to HTC’s current 3.7 inch displays with some additional benefits including battery performance.”

Interestingly enough, HTC does not mention whether the HTC Droid Incredible will switch from AMOLED display to SLCD. In fact, the Droid Incredible is routinely out of stock on the Verizon Wireless store and a switch to SLCD displays would definitely be warranted. Either way, it’s nice to see HTC tackle the problem, offer a viable solution, and inform the general public of the change.
