LG Announces Optimus Vu, Boasts 5 inch Screen and 1.5GHz Dual-Core Processor
The Samsung Galaxy Note is popular because it represents a unique foray into the smartphone and tablet arena by offering a middle-of-the-road screen size at 5.3 inches. LG plans to interject a new smartphone to compete directly with the Galaxy Note starting in March with the Optimus Vu boasting LTE, 5 inch touch screen display, and a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor. I imagine LG will have the Optimus Vu on display at Mobile World Congress 2012.
In terms of other features, it contains an 8MP rear facing camera, 1.3MP front facing camera, Android 2.3, 8.5mm thin, 32GB of onboard memory, and a promised upgrade to Android 4.0 within three months of its March launch. Overall, it looks like another nice tablet/smartphone hybrid, but with the Galaxy Note already dominating much of the market share, LG will need to price its Optimus Vu rather competitively in order to legitimately compete with Samsung. No word on which markets will receive the Optimus Vu or at what price point, but it is said to launch in March.
