Motorola Droid 2 Confirmed By Verizon, Pre-Sale Starts Tomorrow
Well, we knew Verizon Wireless had to announce the Droid 2 sometime early this week to match up with the rumored release date of August 12. Earlier this morning, Verizon Wireless finally announced the much talked about Motorola Droid 2. Since we already heard so many rumors regarding the Droid 2, the press release didn’t really announce anything new about the phone, rather confirm suspicions.
The Motorola Droid 2 will launch with Froyo and Adobe Flash 10.1 out-of-the-box making it Verizon’s first smartphone to launch with Android 2.2. I imagine most high-end Android smartphones from here on out to launch with Android 2.2 onboard. Even though the Droid 2 sports a physical, slider keyboard, some users may still prefer its virtual keyboard; in case you do prefer the virtual keyboard, Verizon wants you to know it features Swype and multi-touch technology. In addition, it features a 3.7 inch touch screen, 5MP camera, 8GB memory pre-installed, memory expansion via microSD, and 3G Mobile Hotspot technology.
Lastly, Verizon Wireless will launch a special, limited edition Star Wars Motorola Droid 2 sometime in September. This special edition device is in honor of Astromech Droid from the popular film series.
Now for the big news, Verizon will allow pre-orders to take place tomorrow (August 11) and then the phone will be officially available August 12 online and in retail stores for $199 after a $100 MIR.
