Motorola Droid X Already Selling Out, Verizon Faces Activation Problems

Sales of the Droid X for Verizon have gone well according to insider sources. In fact, sales have gone so well that many stores are reportedly turning away customers because they have ran out of devices. Instead, customers are receiving coupons that can be redeemed for a Motorola Droid X. Check out the image above which shows a Motorola Droid X in lieu of the actual device.

In addition, BGR is reporting that Verizon Wireless is facing problems with activating the Motorola Droid X to enable data. Verizon Reps are having no problem enabling voice on the Droid X, but backlogging issues with the system are causing customers to go home without data on their phone. However, customers seem to be extremely satisfied with the Droid X that activation problems aren’t as frustrating as one would think.

Hopefully Verizon Wireless retailers will have more devices on hand tomorrow and the backlog issue is sorted out.

About the Author

Currently, I live in the United States in the crowded, but enjoyable state of New Jersey. I first began blogging about technology in 2007, right on the precipice of the smartphone, netbook, and GPS boom. Not to mention Facebook and Twitter have started to become increasingly popular during this time period. In terms of Google Android, I have been privileged to test and review many different devices and among my favorites are the Samsung Epic 4G and the HTC Droid Incredible.

I needed a Droid 2.1 or higher to demo the KDC Android barcode scanner to a client on Friday. Got it yesterday afternoon and tried to activate it this morning. To activate, the program that starts at boot-up makes an automatic call but there’s an error…. The following automated message “You have dialed a number not available from your calling area, 034T (or 079T)”. Problem is the process is a 4-screen loop that you can’t get around.

Verizon Tech support was surprisingly unfamiliar with the Droid X. At one point, they said to me “Why can’t you get around the program and dial *228 to manually program the phone?” “Excuse me, Ma’m, Verizon isn’t my phone company, I have no idea why – Shouldn’t you know?!?”

An hour on the phone, and they want to ship me a replacement – but not overnight! It’s Tuesday, and with regular shipping I won’t have it until Friday. But the demo is Friday. Took me 20 minutes to get them to approve overnight.

We have a blueTooth scanner that works with Android, iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Blackberry, WMobile, Windows and Mac. You can see it in action at http://www.barcodeguy.com!
