Cartoon Network Android App Review
The popular TV channel Cartoon Network just released an Android app that will let you watch some of your favorite shows from your Android device. I was excited when I saw this was out, as I’ve been a fan of the channel for years now. After browsing through the app, it does have some nice stuff, but it seems like it was “rushed” to put it nicely. After testing the app out on two devices, here’s what I thought…
Cartoon Network has a ton of great shows, and they have put “some” of them into this app. They’ve included access to Adventure Time, Batman the Brave & the Bold, Ben 10, Destroy Build Destroy, Dude What Would Happen, Generation Rex, Amazing World of Gumball, Hole in the Wall, Johnny Test, Looney Toons, Mad, Pokemon Black & White, Problem Solverz, Regular Show, Scooby Doo, and Young Justice. Whew, that’s a lot of shows. The most important question people want to know with an app like this is, how many actually episodes are actually available?
Well, there are around 15 full episodes listed, compared to 300 clips. I know the app is brand new, but come on… 15 episodes? If it was an Adult Swim app with clips of ATHF, and Harvey Birdman I would be thrilled, but its not. I bet your thinking, “Well, at least the quality of the videos are great.” Actually, they are not. The video quality looks like it was recorded straight from cable, really poor quality on most things I checked. Not everything was of poor quality, but most things I skimmed were. I tried it on wifi & 3G, still the same; I also tested it on my Captivate, and an Atrix. Honestly, some of the videos reminded me of bootlegs quality wise. As a fan, I was not happy to see the Thundercats trailer in terrible quality either…
I really do love Cartoon Network, but I’m not sure what they were thinking with this app. The layout looks great, and is very easy to use. The content however, is very poor. They could have knocked it out of the park with this app, but they didn’t. I’m sure they will get this fixed, there are too many complaints in the market about the app already (regardless of a mind-boggling 4+ star rating), but until then it’s an Epic Fail in my book. If you want to give Cartoon Networks Video app a look, you can grab it in the market for free.
