File Expert – Android App Review
There’s a great new File Manager in the Market called File Expert from Geek Software Technology. This handy app does a lot of cool things and has some great features. You can transfer files wirelessly through several different methods, manage your apps and view several types of files. It’s similar to a few of the other File Managers, but still manages to stand out with a few different features.
One of the main attractions of this Android app is the ability to transfer files wirelessly. You can do so through FTP/HTTP servers or a SMB client. I tested the ftp/http transfer out on my system, and it worked great with no issues. The App manager feature was very nice as well and will let you uninstall & backup your apps. The program also has all the normal functions of a file manager like copy, paste, and the ability to create & rename folders.
The SMB Client lets you access your host computer from your phone, using your phone to manage your PC via WIFI. You can also play media that is stored on SMB share (your player needs to support HTTP streaming). It is the only file manager that can directly open some types of videos over a SMB network.
There is support for rooted phones as well. If you are rooted, you can install/uninstall apps silently, which makes your batch processing faster. You’ll also get Root access to system folders and files just like Root Explorer, where you can remount those locations to read/write. This feature is in BETA testing, so use it at your own risk.
Overall, File Expert is a great new program and has just replaced my old File Manager. I have been running Astro since I got an Android phone, but this app does things that Astro can’t. The program has a nice, clean layout and is truly free; you won’t have to deal with any annoying ads with this program. If you would like to make a change or just try something new, you can grab File Expert in the Android Market.
