Highborn Android Game Review
Overview
There’s a new Android RTS game in town, by the name of Highborn. It’s from the creators of the Command & Conquer series, which was enough to make me try this game. It’s a turn based, real time strategy game with a casual vibe. You have time to think your moves out, and you’ll need it as the game progresses. It’s a welcome addition to the strategy genre, and a fun game to play. Here’s what I found out when I sat down and spent an hour with Highborn.
Gameplay & Features
It has a deep (and very funny) storyline, and the graphics are great as well. I’ve heard a few complaints about it being laggy, but it runs with no problem on my rooted Captivate. To take your turn, you need to select your character and move within the allotted movement area. You can heal yourself or attack/cast spells if you’re close enough to your target. There are Towns and Monoliths you can capture. For instance, if you capture a monastery, you’ll get a Monk character that can heal your party. The first Monolith you’ll encounter will add “Lightning” to your spell book. Your enemies can capture those items as well, so keep that in mind.
When you attack someone it goes to a cut scene that shows your characters doing 3d battle with your enemies. It gives you and your enemies the opportunity to cast a spell before you turn. In the later levels of the game, other things come into play like tower keeps, gorgons, minotaurs and other fun stuff. The towers kicked my butt pretty good the first time I ran into them. You will have some extra enemies put in your way at any given time, as well as the boss characters at the end of each level.
Don’t fret; you will have some help along the way. Besides your main hero Archie, you’ll get archers, knights and healers. You can also unlock a few more “hero” characters to play with. They have special abilities and can be leveled up. The game looks easy at first glance, but looks can be deceiving. You are going to have to “think” your way through some levels, and do a little planning.
Verdict
It’s a unique and different kind of strategy game. The storyline is really original and stand out. The graphics and sound effects are dead-on as well. The developers are going to add multi-player in the near future, which will add another dimension to the game. It runs well on high-end devices, but may not work on all phones. I think it will be a hugely popular game for Android if people can find it in Amazons market. It truly is a great game and you can pick it up at Amazons Market for 99 cents.
