StarXscape Android Game Review

How about this for an Android game’s premise? – An evil boss named Octramon has imprisoned the stars in octacages. You and your dog named Krudo are tasked to go from galaxy to galaxy to free those imprisoned stars. To do this, you must push the octages down as they coming in with the objective of collapsing the cages to free the stars. Sounds fun? Then you have to check out this Android game called StarXscape from the Android Market. The game is available in free, lite version or paid version that will cost you $1.95.

StarXscape’s gameplay is pretty simple. And you’ve probably played this kind of games before wherein you have to line up either vertically or horizontally  three or more octacages of same color to collapse them. Failure to explode a vertical pile of octages until it reach a boundary will end the game. The main game area is composed of 7 vertical lines where the octacages will fall down. You can control where the cages will be positioned via a virtual directional button.  Along the way, you’d get to use Power Cages which will make your life easier as well as Evil cages which will make your life more difficult.

So, what makes StarXscape from all the other color-matching games that we’ve all played before? – the Presentation. For one thing, the game lets you choose a background. That means you are not confined to the same background everytime you play the game. Another peculiar feature of the game is the presence of the dog actually pushing the cages down and is located at the top left corner of your Android phone’s screen. Below the dog is a huge space occupied by game achievements – Galaxy number or game level, your score and the number of stars you’ve freed. Then the rest of the screen is occupied by the game’s main playing area.

Overall, StarXscape is a pretty good Android game. Not that spectacular but enough to keep you entertained and give your money’s worth of fun game time.  If you love color-matching games, you’d give this game a try.
