Temple Run – Android Game Review
Temple Run is the fast paced running game from Imangi Studios that everyone’s been talking about lately. In only a short time it’s amassed well over 5 million downloads, and there’s a good reason for that. Temple Run is loads of fun, extremely addictive, and is hands down the best running game out there.
The premise of the game is a fun one as you take on the role of Guy Dangerous an average explorer who’s stolen a cursed idol from a Temple. As anyone knows if you steal a cursed idol bad things are bound to happen, and in Temple Run those bad things are Evil Demon Monkeys. To escape the monkeys’ wrath you’ll have to run, jump, and slide which is much harder than it sounds… especially when you’ve got evil demon monkeys on your tail. Controlling your explorer is easy and fun as you’ll swipe up to jump, left & right to turn, and down to slide. You can also tilt your device from side-to-side to collect coins which you can use to buy swag from the store.
Temple Run’s store has three different types of goods with powerups, utilities, and characters. There are 5 powerups that give you powers like invisibility, speed, and coin boosts. The utilites help you out in the resurrection and boost departments, and the characters give you different adventurers to play with. There are 7 characters to unlock including Barry Bones, Montana Smith, and Zack Wonder among others. The powerups and utilities are cheap, but the characters will set you back between 10 and 25,000 coins. You can get coins by playing or purchase them outright; the prices seem fair compared to other games with similar setups. Temple Run also has over 30 achievements and tracks your stats for best single run and overall gameplay.
I’ve never owned an iPhone or any other iDevice so this was my first go round’ with Temple Run, and it did not disappoint. I’m not even a big fan of running games, but Temple Run is really a game for almost anyone. The graphics (and monkeys) are cool, but the way you control your runner really makes the game for me. If you haven’t already played it, I highly recommend you check it out. You can get Imangi Studios Temple Run for free on Google Play.
