Rumor: Motorola Droid Will Receive Android 2.2 Before Motorola Droid X

Motorola Droid users can rejoice because rumor has it that they will be the first on Verizon to upgrade to Android 2.2, aka Froyo. According to a leaked picture in the Verizon database, the Motorola Droid is supposed to receive the latest version of Android well before its successor, the Droid X. On the surface, it seems that the newer model should feature the most upgraded and recent software, but actually it is easier for Verizon to upgrade the Motorola Droid than the Droid X.

Since the Droid X will run Motoblur, that causes some delay in installing Android 2.2. Since the original Droid has no additional Android UI skins, it will be easier for Verizon to install Android 2.2 in the Droid. According to the leaked image, the Droid will receive Android 2.2 and Adobe Flash 10.1 late July, while the Droid X will receive the same updates nearly a month later in late August. Android 2.2 and Adobe Flash 10.1 will both come by way of OTA. Only time will tell whether or not the rumor holds up, but it certainly makes sense from a technical standpoint.

About the Author

Currently, I live in the United States in the crowded, but enjoyable state of New Jersey. I first began blogging about technology in 2007, right on the precipice of the smartphone, netbook, and GPS boom. Not to mention Facebook and Twitter have started to become increasingly popular during this time period. In terms of Google Android, I have been privileged to test and review many different devices and among my favorites are the Samsung Epic 4G and the HTC Droid Incredible.
