Sony DNA releases Picture Rater for Android

Overview

Sony DNA has put out some handy Android Apps over the past year, and they are starting off 2012 with a new app called Picture Rater that works alongside their Picture Manager app. The apps tagline is “Don’t Think, Just Pick” and you’ll do just that as you flip through your pics and rate them in a fun way.

The way Picture Rater work is pretty unique as it scans your phone for pictures and then puts them into a duel of sorts where you pick the best picture between the two. The picture you rate higher gets a higher number or stars while the lower rated pic gets less. If you hit some two pictures you don’t want to rate you can skip past them and the ratings for both will drop; this function was very handy for me as I have a lot of screenshots coupled in with actual pictures. If you do hit one of your favorite photos you can show your love by tapping quickly which increases your photos rating to the max. Once you get through the batch you’re also given a few stats regarding what you’ve changed and the total number of times you’ve rated the pictures.

Verdict

I actually spend quite a bit of time with Picture Rater, and it was fun and easy to go through my pics and rate them. I also liked the fact that you had to pit your pictures against one another which actually became difficult a few times when it popped up two of my favorite pictures side by side. Overall, it’s a fun and intuitive way to rate your picture, but you will have to have Picture Manager installed to run Picture Rater. Picture Rater is free to download, and Picture Manager can be had for $2.49 in the market.
