Sprint Announces that the Motorola Photon 4G Will Launch July 31 for $199 on Contract

About a month ago, Sprint announced the upcoming Motorola Photon 4G, which is essentially a superphone from Motorola offered on Sprint with support for their WiMAX 4G service.

Today, we learned that the Photon 4G will officially make its debut on the Sprint network starting July 31st, however, if you are a Sprint Premier Customer, you will be able to purchase the Photon 4G a few days earlier, starting on July 28.  If you are a Sprint Premier customer and are interested in purchasing the Android smartphone ahead of time, you can only do so online, not in a retail Sprint store.

The Motorola Photon 4G on Sprint features a 4.3 inch qHD touch screen display, Android 2.3, dual-core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard memory, global capabilities, support for Sprint ID packs, and 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot service.

Overall, the Photon on Sprint looks to become one of the main high-end offerings from Sprint joining the iconic HTC EVO 3D.  In my opinion, the price point is perfect as Sprint continues to show that they will price high-end 4G smartphones at an affordable sub-$200 price point.

About the Author

Currently, I live in the United States in the crowded, but enjoyable state of New Jersey. I first began blogging about technology in 2007, right on the precipice of the smartphone, netbook, and GPS boom. Not to mention Facebook and Twitter have started to become increasingly popular during this time period. In terms of Google Android, I have been privileged to test and review many different devices and among my favorites are the Samsung Epic 4G and the HTC Droid Incredible.
