Sprint Launches 7 Additional 4G Markets; Still Faces EVO 4G Shortages
Today is a good and bad day for the U.S. carrier giant, Sprint. They announced 7 additional markets are now 4G capable, but analysts claim shortages are plaguing the HTC EVO 4G, much like shortages have invariably plagued the HTC Droid Incredible on Verizon. The HTC EVO 4G has sold 300,000 times according to recent indications, which is a still a good number for Sprint, but minute compared to the staggering 1.7 million sales of the iPhone 4.
Let’s continue with the good news for Sprint and check out which cities now boast 4G that can be accessed on the EVO 4G and the future Epic 4G. The cities include Rochester, N.Y., Syracuse, N.Y., Merced, Calif., Visalia, Calif., Eugene, Ore., Tri-Cities, Wash., and Yakima, Wash. The grand total for 4G capable cities is 43, a mark that Sprint will increase as time goes on. Next up to receive the 4G treatment is New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. By installing 4G in all major cities, the HTC EVO 4G becomes even more enticing as 4G means increased browsing and streaming speeds on smartphones. Samsung has been slow to product AMOLED screens for the HTC Droid Incredible and the LCD screens for the HTC EVO 4G. In fact, HTC has signed on with Sony to receive the LCD screens from Sony instead of Samsung.
The shortages remain good news for Motorola because they can capitalize on it with the Motorola Droid X in the United States. However, for Sprint and Google’s sake, the more devices Sprint can pump out the better for Android.

Yes iPhone sold supposedly 1.7m However how many of them where new customers? Although for Apple 1.7 million new sales where made, for AT&T they aren’t gaining anything more than a predictable revenue stream further into the future if all 1.7 million are existing customers.
If numbers I’m seeing are correct and 95% of the iphone sales are to existing iPhone owners and the reverse is true on the EVO. Sprint vs AT&T. Sprint wins big.
