Sprint Reaffirms its Commitment to Android 2.2 On the Epic 4G
Hot on the heels of T-Mobile revealing it will roll out Android 2.2 to Samsung Vibrant owners starting tomorrow (Janaury 21), Sprint tweeted two important messages essentially stating Froyo for the Epic will be released as soon as possible, but testing is still being conducted.
The full text of each tweet is:
Sprint & Samsung are working to release Froyo for Epic ASAP, but only after it meets rigorous testing criteria to ensure quality experience.
Epic 4G users: Froyo is still in the works. We’re working closely with @SamsungMobileUS to ensure the best possible customer experience.
While it is nice to see Sprint remind us that they are working with Samsung to create an official build of Android 2.2, a likely time frame would be better. However, at least they bothered to tweet the public, instead of AT&T and Verizon Wireless who have remain quiet as reports of Samsung holding back on Froyo for the Vibrant surface. Even though this rumor has likely been dispelled as the Vibrant should begin receiving Android 2.2 starting tomorrow, it has likely left a sour taste in Galaxy S owners mouths’ about Samsung’s ability to deliver timely Android updates.
