The Top New Android Games of the Week – March 11, 2013
So many games, so little time. This week’s edition of the Top New Android Games of the Week is full of great games and it was quite the task to trim it down to only 10. There’s definitely a little something for everyone this week with games including dog loving sharks, pixely warriors, and two buff brothers with a love of guns. Without further ado, we proudly present our picks for the best of the bunch from last week…
1. Solar 2
The Humble Bundle dropped last week and Solar 2 is one of three new Android games to come our way. Solar 2 lets you play in space as you’ll take control of an asteroid and use it to form a planet. From there you can zip around the universe stealing planets from other solar systems, attack other planets or just drift around do what planets do. It’s a great looking game and it’s well worth the $4.00 price tag. If you’re looking for something different check out the demo of Solar 2.
God of Blades lets you step into the role of an undead warrior king that’s out to defend his world against an evil cult of doom. You can read a bit more about White Whale Games God of Blades here or you can head on over to Google Play and pick it up for a buck.
If you like 8-bit games Pixel Kingdom is a game you’ll want to look into as it puts your defensive skills to the test against hordes of 8-bit enemies. It’s a castle defense game that’s full of pixely heroes, villians, and cool gear; it’s also a free download and a great way to pass some time. Smash Games Pixel Kingdom is available to download on Google Play.
4. Gun Bros 2
Glu Mobile finally dropped Gun Bros 2 this week and it’s just as fun as the first one. This dual-stick shooter lets you control of the two buff brothers and you’ll have to help them defend the galaxy from T.O.O.L one more time. New levels, new weapons, and multiplayer from the jump. It’s a game you’ll definitely want to check out if you’re into shooters, and you can pick it up for free.
Bladeslinger is a game a lot of gamers have been longing for and Kerosene Games brought it to Google Play late last week. The game follows the tale of William Glaston as he tries to rid evil from his hometown of Hammer’s Peak. It’s one of the slickest mobile games you’re likely to see and you can pick it up for $2.99.
Disney teamed up with Temple Run again to let gamers take a run down the yellow brick road. Temple Run Oz is the latest in the Temple Run series of games and it was put out to promote the new movie Oz the Great and Powerful. It’s basically Temple Run 2 set in Oz which is by no means a bad thing. If you love The Wizard of Oz or Temple Run you’ll want to pick this one up. Great game and it’s a steal at only $0.99.
7. Chip Chain
Chip Chain is a new match-3 game from the folks at AppAbove Games. You’ll use poker chips to make matches as you try to string together combos and shoot for the high-score. Chip Chain offers up several modes of play and it’s free to download on Google Play.
G5 Entertainment is well known for their hidden object fair, but their latest game Kaptain Brawe goes the old school point and click route. The game follows an interstellar police officer on a journey across the stars as he deals with conspiracies and takes on quests. As usual, you’ll get to try out some of the game for free while the rest can be unlocked via an IAP purchase from within the game.
If you like your Android games to have a bit of heart, Astro Shark HD is for you. It’s a story about a shark and a space dog with some rockets and kidnappers thrown in for good measure. It’s the most interesting game on our list and you can check it out for only $0.99.
10. Ring Attack
Ring Attack is a psychedelic new game that puts your reflexes and eyeballs to the test. The gameplay is in the vein of games like Super Hexagon, and it has one of the longest visual stimulation “warning” disclaimers I’ve ever seen on a mobile game. Yeah, it’s pretty trippy. There’s a demo of Ring Attack you can check out and if you like what you see the full version can be yours for only $0.99
