U.S. Dell Streak To Receive Android 2.2 Directly From Android 1.6
The Dell Streak launched just a few days ago and even though it features powerful hardware, it’s only running Android 1.6. Weeks before the launch of the Streak, a Dell employee showed a video of the Streak running Android 2.1 announcing that the American Streak would receive Android 2.1 at a later date. Following the Android 2.1 update would be another update from Dell featuring Android 2.2.
A tweet from LionelatDell seems to indicate that the Dell Streak in the United States will be upgraded from Android 1.6 to Android 2.2, meaning it will never rest at Android 2.1 along the way. This comes as good news as I’m sure many Streak owners are anxious to upgrade from Android 1.6. A lot of products these days are characterized by the software they run, and I believe the Dell Streak would command much more respect running Android 2.2 than Android 1.6. In the tweet, which can be read above, LionelatDell did not shed any details about timeframe for the rollout of Froyo, but hopefully it occurs shortly.
