VNC Viewer Android App Review

Overview

VNC Viewer is cool and useful Android app that lets you access and control a computer from your Android phone or tablet – allowing you to view your desktop, run applications and access as if you are sitting in front of your computer. But actually you are not, because you are actually using your Android phone. Sounds pretty cool, right?
VNC Viewer Android App – How does it work?

Using VNC Viewer is pretty easy. All you need to do is to get the app from the Android Market and download the Real VNC desktop app to enable the Real VNC server on your Windows, Mac or Linux machine. Although the VNC Enterprise Edition is required for a more robust, secure, and high-performance connections, you can still use VNC Viewer via the Apple Remote Desktop/Remote Management app for Mac users or through third-party VNC-compatible servers.
Setting VNC Viewer to work on my MacBook Pro was a breeze using the Apple Remote Desktop/Remote Management. I was able to connect my Google Nexus One and MBP and was able to control my MBP on my Android phone which were connected to my home Wi-Fi network.
VNC Viewer Android App – Features

While my Google Nexus One running VNC Viewer was connected to my MBP via the sharing option, I was able to do pretty much everything that I can do on my Mac. I was able to use the pinch to zoom gesture as well as pinch out to go to full screen mode. I was also able to control my Mac’s desktop to open apps, navigate through menus and tabs as well as drag items. Best of all, I was able to type into my Mac using my Nexus One’s keyboard.
Using VNC Viewer on my Android phone, I was also able to use the mouse button mode, allowing me to left, right, and middle click. There was also an imaginary scroll wheel as well as a scrolling key bar which contained buttons that represents Mac keyboard keys – function, modifier, editing, navigation, and crtl, alt and del keys.
Verdict

If you have an iMac or Windows Desktop or even a laptop that you need to control remotely VNC Viewer Android app is a good solution. If you’re a Mac user, you’ll appreciate the fact that this app works wonderfully with your machine through the Remote Management option. If you want a more secure connection, you might want to get the RealVNC Personal or Enterprise Edition. But if you’re going the use the app to connect with your machine at home, the free version of the desktop connector will suffice.
VNC Viewer Android app is available for $9.76 from the Android Market. For more details on how the app works, watch the demo video below.
