Along with the announcement of the Motorola Droid 2 yesterday, Verizon Wireless announced the special edition R2-D2 Droid 2 in honor of the Star Wars series. Even though the Droid 2 officially launches tomorrow, the special edition Droid 2 is still weeks away, as it will launch online only sometime in September.
About a week ago, Verizon was supposed to start updating Motorola Droid devices with Android 2.2, but for some reason, Big Red stopped the update indefinitely. While it was supposed that the build would be modified and changed, it has not. Build FRG01B is the same as it has always been and if you still haven’t received the update, you can check your system updates to see if it is available.
Well, we knew Verizon Wireless had to announce the Droid 2 sometime early this week to match up with the rumored release date of August 12. Earlier this morning, Verizon Wireless finally announced the much talked about Motorola Droid 2. Since we already heard so many rumors regarding the Droid 2, the press release didn’t really announce anything new about the phone, rather confirm suspicions.
This high end Android device is well known for its 4 inch touch screen and 8MP camera with dual LED flash. One of its main shortcomings is the fact that it will launch with the outdated Android 1.6 OS. Some point after the Xperia X10 launches, Sony will rollout an OTA software update for Android 2.1, which should be well received by Xperia X10 owners.
