StarFront: Collision is a killer new RTS game from Gameloft. If you’re a fan of the old game Starcraft, you are going to REALLY love this game. You play a group named “The Consortium” whose job is to mine a rare mineral from a planet called Sinistral. The problem is this planet is also inhabited by an alien species called The Myriad, who want to stop you from getting the Xenodium minerals. You’ll also have to deal with a pretty cool looking race of robots known as The Wardens. Now that you know what’s going on with the storyline, lets get to the good stuff…
Ever wanted to be a Worm that eats people and destroys things? Me neither, but it sure is fun play one in “Death Worm” from PlayCreek. The monster in this game is a giant worm that looks like he came straight out of the movie Tremors. Your job is to eat people, animals, and generally cause a lot of chaos. It was a big hit on the Iphone, and now those of us with Android can enjoy the game.
I stumbled across a series of interesting games in the Android market a few weeks ago, the first of which is Colour My Heart. The games were designed by Silver Stitch, with music by Coin. They were originally available on the web through sites like Newsgrounds, but have been ported over to Android by developer Anderdroid Apps. There games are more “artistic” in nature than anything else I have ever played. They look simple, but don’t be fooled there is quite a bit you can do as you travel through the dreary Black & White worlds. Silver Stitch has done 4 games in the series, and Anderdroid Apps has ported over 3 so far. Here is a brief rundown of these unique dystopian games…
There’s a great new File Manager in the Market called File Expert from Geek Software Technology. This handy app does a lot of cool things and has some great features. You can transfer files wirelessly through several different methods, manage your apps and view several types of files. It’s similar to a few of the other File Managers, but still manages to stand out with a few different features.
If you’ve ever wanted to have a virtual fish tank on your phone, Tap Fish is the game for you. The popular iOS game is now available on Android thanks to Gameview Studios. Tap Fish puts you in charge of your own virtual aquarium and all the task that go along with it. You will have to keep the tank clean and the fish fed, just like a real fish tank. The large amount of unlockable items combined with great graphics really set this virtual aquarium game apart from the rest.
Paradise Island is a new simulation game that lets you build your own little island empire from the ground up. You’ll need to get people to come to your island, and keep them happy while they are there. This Android simulation game has a whole lot of depth. You won’t beat it in a day or two; it’s going to take some time. If you do get tired of playing, life on the island will just keep on going.
Have you ever wanted to turn the pictures from your phone into a movie? Well thanks to Sony, there’s an Android app for that. With the release of Photo Movie Creator you can make a slideshow style movie using any pictures you choose. It pulls photo’s from your phone, and you can select which ones you want it to use. There are several different themes to choose from, and each theme has its own music.
I’ve always enjoyed finding games in the Market that are a little different. YoYo Games and Jesse Venbrux have done that with a new Android game called “They Need to be fed.” In this funky little game; you’ll take guide your character through the levels, and feed yourself to a monster at the end. It’s harder than it sounds as the whole game is set in zero-gravity, and you’ll have to avoid many deadly obstacles along the way.
Dog Pile is a fun new Android game by JoshOCLock and ArtWitz Design. It’s really hard to put this game into one category. It’s kind of like they combined pachinko with a match game, and threw in some pinball in for good measure. I really wasn’t sure what to think at first. After a few minutes of listening to the quirky soundtrack, and watching the little pooches fly around the board, I was hooked. I finally finished all the levels, and here’s what I thought about this fun little game…
Pro HDR Camera is a new Android App from EyeApps, LLC. If you’re not familiar with the term, HDR means High Dynamic Range. I’m sure you’ve seen photos where the color really “pops” out, well that’s HDR, and this app allows you to do that. There are other programs that allow you to do the same, but this one has some features that set it apart. After snapping dozens of photos, here’s the lowdown on the app…
There’s a new photo sharing Android app that just entered the Market called, “CliqueIt.” It’s still in the beta stages, but has a lot of potential. Sure there are countless other photo sharing apps, but this one does it a little differently. With CliqueIt you can join mobile communities, and share photos with only those in your group. You can make your own public or private (password protected) groups, letting you share with everyone, or only those you choose.
DJ Rivals is a fun new game from developers Booyah, Inc. This little gem almost slipped under my radar this week, but I’m glad I noticed it. This Android game lets you take on the role of a DJ, and you have to battle the evil Bland Corp. It’s got elements of the popular game Rock Band, as you have to tap the notes out during your DJ battles, with a little scratching thrown in for good measure. What else does it have? It’s got some really great graphics, plenty of upgrades, and a whole lot of potential.
Domino Solitaire is a new Android game that fans of the real domino game as well as new generation gamers who enjoy Sudoku and other mobile puzzle games will surely enjoy and like. The game gives you more than 50 challenging levels with each level requiring you to solve the puzzles by figuring out where each of the 28 dominoes are hidden. Make no mistake into thinking that this puzzle game is too easy, because actually it is not.
The Major League Baseball season kicked off last week, so I thought it was about time to look at some baseball apps. First up is Baseball Superstars 2011 from popular game developer Gamevil. This game series has been around for years, and the newest version has improved in several areas over last years. The depth of gameplay is outstanding; you can play it for weeks without getting sick of it. It has slick graphics with fast gameplay, and it’s a whole lotta fun.
VNC Viewer is one of the useful Android apps that lets you control your desktop environment on your Android phone. Great if you have an iMac or one of those big Windows PC Machine as you can practically control them even while your in another room.
