A 5-inch Samsung Galaxy Grand is a mid-range device

by On December 18, 2012

You might be aware of a little smartphone brand called Samsung Galaxy, the same brand is getting a new member really soon, the Galaxy Grand. The Galaxy Grand by its name seems to be well grand but it is only half way there. It is probably a weird cross between the internals of Galaxy S3 mini and the externals of Galaxy Note 2. The device is 5-inched sure, but it has nothing common with the recently announced/leaked beasts apart from the dimensions of course. The Samsung Galaxy Grand will come with a 5 inch WVGA display which will only be able to display a 480×800 resolution. The processor is a 1.2 GHZ Dual core one, but we don’t know of what model. There will be 8GB internal storage and 1GB of RAM, nothing “grand” but it will get most jobs done. The device is powered by a 2100mAh battery which will be more than enough for the relatively low res screen and less demanding processor. The rear facing camera is the new industry standard 8MP; a 2MP snapper will adorn the front of the device. Also the device will be running on Android 4.1.2 along with Samsung’s own TouchWiz. Another thing to point is that the Galaxy Grand has only 21mbps HSPA+ along with standard 850/900/1900/2100MHz frequencies. But LTE is nowhere to be found though. The device will come in two models, one with single Sim slot and the other with two. They will be called GT-I9080 and GT-I9083 respectively. We are assuming that this device will be targeted towards Asian and probably European markets but we might see it in the US too, that is if any of the carriers is interested. There is no word of release dates or pricing though, we will update you as soon as we hear them. Source: Samsung Tomorrow
