At AT&T’s holiday preview taking place in New York City, it was announced that the second largest American wireless carrier will launch the unique Sony Ericsson Xperia Play later this year. Interestingly enough, AT&T will allow customers to purchase a unique blue flavor of the Xperia Play in addition to the stock black option. The Xperia Play will be pretty much identical to the version we have come to love on Verizon Wireless, except for the fact that it will be available in blue as well. The PlayStation certified Android smartphone will become the second Android 2.3 smartphone on AT&T, but that could very well change if it doesn’t launch for another month or two. Moreover, the Xperia Play comes with support for AT&T’s HSPA+ network, which can reach theoretical speeds of 21MBps. Unfortunately, pricing and exact availability remains a mystery at this time, but AT&T will probably sell it for $199 on a two year contract, as Verizon Wireless currently sells it at that price point. When AT&T releases more information regarding the Xperia Play, we will definitely keep you updated.
