According to a press release recently issued by Best Buy, the HTC Flyer WiFi tablet running Android 2.3 will receive a price cut from $499 to $299 starting tomorrow, October 1st. The price cut is a permanent change and will be reflected in Best Buy’s online store as well as in physical, retail stores. Best Buy does not divulge into the reasoning behind such an impromptu price cut of this magnitude, but it can be assumed that sales weren’t what Best Buy or HTC expected or hoped for. Interestingly enough, the price cut comes shortly after Amazon announces its $199 Kindle Fire tablet and after HP witnessed a massive interest spike in the HP TouchPad following a price cut. It will be interesting to see how the Flyer fares now that it is $200 cheaper. Also, it will be interesting to see if any other Android tablets receive large price cuts in the coming days and weeks.
