ARMA: Armed Assault is one of the best tactical games around, and the folks at Bohemia Interactive have just unleashed the series onto Google Play with Arma Tactics THD. While it isn’t a full-fledged shooter, it is one of the slickest strategy games you’ll play. Arma Tactics THD goes with a top-down perspective and puts you in charge of a four-man Special Forces unit. You’re presented with a scenario, and can work with your team to get through it however you see fit. You can go in stealthy, flank your enemies or just rush in guns blazing – it’s totally up to you. Arma Tactics THD gives you several different operatives to choose from, each has a different skillset, and you can customize their loadouts before sending them into battle. As it stands Arma Tactics THD offers up one campaign called Operation Tempest which has 5 different scenarios. You can also create your own missions using maps from the game along with four difference scenarios. It may not sound like much, but Arma Tactics isn’t a game you’re going to walk through. If you do manage to make it through a scenario alive you’ll be rewarded with credits that can be used to purchase new gear for your squad. The Armory is where you’ll gear up, and while the weapons are cool, there aren’t many of them. More weapons may become available as you progress through the game, but as it stands there are 4 guns, 3 types of grenades, a few claymores. There are a few other perks (medkits, grenade pouch), but that’s it for the most part. You can upgrade three of the weapons, but only with optics and extended mags. Pretty disappointing, and one can only hope that more weapons become available in the future.Arma Tactics THD may be a little light in the Armory, but the game itself is top-notch. It’s one of the best looking tactical games you’ll play on a mobile device, and the gameplay is easy to pick up on even if you’re a rookie. If you’re rocking a Tegra-powered device, and want to take Arma Tactics THD for a spin you can pick it up for $4.99 on Google Play.
