HBO has pretty much set the standard for streaming Premium Channel apps, and last week Showtime entered the fray with the Showtime Anytime Android app. Nowadays all the premium channels are putting out their own apps, but some are better than others. The real question is how does the Showtime Anytime app stack up against the competition? The Showtime Anytime app lets you get caught up on all your favorite Showtime shows, watch hit movies, and basically lets you enjoy everything you love about the service. The app handy feature in ‘My List’ where you can organize and view your favorite programs, and Play Shifting which lets you start watching a show or movie on one device and pick up watching it on another. All your favorite shows are included like Homeland, Dexter, Weeds, The Franchise, and Nurse Jackie but you’ll also get access to tons of movies new and old. I haven’t personally perused the selection because even though I’m a subscriber I can’t use the app. That’s the downside of the Showtime Anytime app folks, it’s only available if you subscribe and only for for people with AT&T U-verse & Verizon FiOS. I’m sure quite a few people have those services, but there are some major players missing (Comcast) from that very, very short list. I love TV and I love my HBO Go and Max Go apps. Both apps have performed a little rough at times, but after several updates they’ve worked most of the kinks out and they are very handy to have on hand at times. While the Showtime Anytime app looks to be a good one it’s really stuck in the mud right now as there are just too many people with other service providers that can’t use the app. If have U-Verse or FiOS you’ll probably want to give the app a go and you can get it for free on Google Play.
