A few weeks back we covered Terry Cavanagh’s frustrating game Super Hexagon, and now we’re back to tell about VVVVVV for Android. VVVVVV is a puzzling 2D platformer that was originally released in 2010 on the PC and again in 2011 for the Nintendo 3DS. It’s a platform game with an old-school look and it’s coming to Android very, very soon. VVVVVVis an 8-bit space game following Captain Viridian, a space captain that’s in search of his missing crew. We won’t go into the catastrophe that separated the captain from his crew, but we’ll just tell you it involves “dimensional interference” which is never a good thing. While most platform games involve jumping or running, VVVVVV does things a bit differently. You’ll control Captain Viridian by controlling gravity itself as you’ll be able to flip between the floors and ceilings of environments. This definitely makes things interesting when you’re having to deal with moving floors, ghastly ghosts, and spikes. There are always lots of spikes… The game looks like it crawled straight of out the 80s, and it’s got a kick-ass chiptune soundtrack to boot. If you’ve played Super Hexagon you know Terry Cavanagh can make a tough game, and VVVVVV is no exception. You’re going to die a lot, but you’ll keep going back for more and you’re going to be very thankful for those glorious checkpoints. No firm release date has been set, but Terry has said to expect VVVVVV for Android in the first half of this year so we should have it within the next few months. It’s shaping up to be a great year to be an Android gamer, and VVVVVV is the first of many great indies we’ll be covering this year.
