Google Earth Android App Updated, Now Optimized for Android Tablets

by On May 5, 2011

It was just a matter of time. Google Earth for the iPad was a pleasure to use, with great, high-quality graphics so it is just about proper for Google to make this app available for Android tablets as well. And so they did, Google Earth for Android has just been updated, or to be specific – optimized for Android Tablets. Google has added support for fully textured 3D buildings – making street views on Android tablets more realistic than ever. Google Earth for Android also now has a new action bar that gives you easier access to the search function, “fly to your location” option, and layers including – Places, Panoramio Photos, Wikipedia and 3D buildings. Of course, the update took advantage of the larger screen size of Android tablets as compared to Android smartphones. So, the Android app will also have some cool features such as content pop-ups in Earth View. Also since Android tablets have larger screen you can now interact with Panoramio photos while viewing an image in the background. You can now also choose which layers you will want to browse just by clicking on the layer button on the action bar. The new version of Google Earth for Android supports devices running Android 2.1 and for Android tablets running Android 3.0 Honeycomb. ¬†To get Google Earth Android app, simply point your tablet’s mobile browser to m.google.com/earth or search for the app on the Android Market. via Google Mobile Blog
