Google TV Gets Upgrade and Promises Faster Updates

google tv Google TV Developer’s Google + page just announced that Google TV was updated on the latest versions of Google Chrome and Android OS. These are good news for Developers and users, yet they were not released at Google’s I/O conference, but it makes no difference, really. According to Google’s announcement, Google TV is now running on Android 4.2.2 JellyBean, which was optimized for faster updates for its OEM partners. The updates will take place in weeks, rather than months, as it was before and the Developers will now have the possibility to get the latest APIs when they’re developing apps, Android DNK included. The upgrade to the new Android version draws the line for Flash on Google TV, as it is not supported anymore. Flash is replaced by HTML5 for streaming online content. Chrome on Google TV will also be updated to the latest version and from now, the updates will take place at every six weeks. After the update, Chrome on Google TV will offer to developers a new feature called   “hardware based content protection”, and it will improve the possibility of streaming copyrighted HD content. google tv The devices that use Google TV, like the Asus Cube, recently released into the wild, are to be updated in the next few months, according to Google. Also, a new range of Google TV gadgets are to appear until the end of 2013. LG announced it will update its Google TV line to the latest Android 4.2.2 in Q3 of 2013 and they even released a video of the GA7900 Google HDTV model running on the updated firmware. This video mentions that the Android 4.2.2 update is due in “a few weeks” and also reveals the LG models that will receive the update: GA7900, GA6400 and the G2. It will be very interesting to see the LG’s 3d Game Changer technology, which allows the conversions of 2D games to 3D, after the update. Source : Google TV
