Hero Forge is a puzzling new RPG from Clapfoot that lets you forge a hero of your very own through matching 3D blocks. Yup, it’s another matching game, but things are a bit different this go-round as you get to fight folks in some intense online battles. Matching games come in many different shapes and forms, and Hero Forge requires you that you only two cubes of the same kind instead of the usual three. The playing field is 3D, and you’ll be able to pan around the stack of cubes by swiping left or right. It’s a different take on things, and quite a bit of fun once you get the hang of it. There are several different types of cubes to match as well including Fire Mana, Swords, and Shields. The battles in Hero Forge are simulated, but only to an extent. You get to watch the action unfold, and the cubes you match are tied to power-ups that can help your character and hurt your enemy. Battles are generally pretty quick, and I was able to play back-to-back games for over an hour straight without an issue. Not bad for a Beta that was just released. Hero Forge was released last night, and while it’s in Beta I’ve been very impressed with what I’ve seen thus far. There are only three character classes at the moment, but the battles are a blast and I look forward to seeing the finished product. If you want to give it a whirl, you can pick up Clapfoot’s Hero Forge on Google Play for free.
