AT&T announced today that the upcoming HTC Status (previously known as the ChaCha) will be officially available on July 17 for $49.99 on a two year contract. In fact, the pre-order period for the Facebook focused smartphone began yesterday and will presumably extend until it launches on the 17th. AT&T is proud of the fact that it is available just in time for back-to-school shopping to begin, because they are hoping the unique and deep Facebook integration within the Status will attract those addicted to Facebook. The Facebook button, located on the bottom the device, allows users to share easily and efficiently their current activity. The HTC Status boasts Android 2.3 and a revamped version of HTC Sense that integrates Facebook into more features and options. In addition, the Status comes with a 2.6 inch touch screen display, portrait style QWERTY keyboard, 5MP rear facing camera, and a VGA front facing camera. Lastly, in case pre-ordering with AT&T isn’t your cup of tea, Best Buy is also holding their own pre-sale and has an exclusive mauve color of the Status.
