Netflix is still King of the Streaming Apps

by On June 16, 2012

Streaming Media is becoming standard with any and all new portable devices, and it’s great to be able to sit down and watch your favorite’s movies and shows while you’re on the go. If you’re in the US you’ve got several options to choose from, but only one stands head and shoulders above the rest and that app is known as Netflix. If you’ve been living under a rock for the past decade and haven’t heard of the wonderful service known as Netflix here’s what all the fuss is about. Netflix lets you stream thousands and thousands of movies and television shows to almost anything with a screen. It’s compatible with Ps3’s, Xbox 360’s, i-devices, and most importantly Android phones and tablets. For one low monthly price you can get all they have to offer, and watch till your heart’s content; they’ve also got a great free trial offer that I’ve used more than once over the years to be honest. Personally, I’ve been a member for years now and have never had an issue with the service; I would actually sign-up for a lifetime membership if they had that option as I think it’s a must-have if you watch a lot of shows or movies. Netflix’s free trial, queue, and recommendation system is huge reason while the service is so popular, and while Amazon Prime is improving and Blockbuster is floundering around out there somewhere they’ve both still got a lot of catching up to do.

Verdict

Netflix may have been around for awhile, but they’ve done a bit of expanding and earlier this year our friends from across the pond in the UK got a little Netflix thrown their way. Unknown to a lot of us, the UK already has their own similar service called LOVEFiLM and it has a pretty nice lineup. After browsing the LOVEFiLM app and checking out their selection the movies are comparable to Netflix’s lineup with more British movies included as you might expect. The services actually seem to share a lot in common as they both do home delivery of rentals, but LOVEFiLM has one thing Netflix doesn’t… you can rent games with them. Both services are viable options for folks in the UK, but if you’re in the US LOVEFiLM is unavailable. If you’re in the United States chances are you’ve already tried Netflix or are a member that already knows about it’s awesome capabilities. If you like in the UK the service hasn’t been around that long, and you may want to give it a shot if you haven’t tried it yet. If you’re in the UK and ready to make the switch or just want to use Netflix free trial we highly advise you to check it out.
