Well according to some Verizon internal docs, it looks like the HTC Droid Eris is scheduled to receive a OTA software update. Unfortunately, it will not be the coveted Android 2.2 update but normal improvements and enhancements for the first HTC Android phone on Verizon. Coming July 16 at 11:59 PM, the OTA update will begin to roll out to Droid Eris owners, but it could take a week before all the Droid Eris owners receive the update. The internal Verizon document, pictured below, indicates improvements to audio, speed dialing, and picture and text messaging. In addition, contact syncing will be upgraded to work with Backup Assistant, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, and Facebook. The weather app on the smartphone will be enhanced and stabilized. The update will enable the device to pair with the Jabra Bluetooth headset. The last improvement will make Gmail contacts sync easily with the Droid Eris. Even though the HTC Droid Eris has been phased out by Verizon, it’s still that Verizon and HTC are pushing out another update which should make the Droid Eris experience a better one. We’ll stay on top of this rumor and hopefully be able to confirm it come July 16.
