Samsung’s weird, new patent

Did you check out the ASUS Padfone, and think the phone-in-a-tablet was a pretty cool design? A phone that slides into the back of a tablet could be the best of both worlds, or a complicated mess.

Samsung seems to agree with Padfone fans, as they’ve recently acquired a patent for a similar product. The device, which you’ll see below (courtesy of Patent Bolt), is oddly shaped and seems to have minimal aesthetics. No front-facing hardware button, or any hardware buttons to speak of. The curious part is the gullwing top, which looks to be used to hold the phone to the tablet.

It’s hard to think Samsung would consider these commercially attractive, so this could be an enterprise device. We’d also like to think Samsung could come up with a sleeker device, especially for an all-in-one. Perhaps geared toward those in the field who need a tablet and phone, this kind of device could help satisfy a number of needs.

A phone that distinct will be polarizing, even if it has a tablet accompanying it. We should also consider that we don’t have any indicators as to size, so this could be a bluetooth device or something similar for a larger phone. It will be interesting to see if this one ever sees the light of day.

Thanks, Kevin!
