The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android smartphone is a solid device in terms of hardware, but it runs the outdated Android 1.6. At a time when most Android handsets are running Android 2.x, it’s almost embarassing to see a phone still operating on an older version of Android. Fortunately, most manufacturers plan to update their phones, but the process usually takes a while and they are always vague about timeframes. Sony Ericsson UK recently announced some interesting information in a tweet:
@KOR_9S We can only confirm that the upgrade to Android 2.1 is due for release before the end of September this year. We hope this helps.
Unfortunately, there is the distinct possibility that only Xperia X10 devices in the UK will receive the Android 2.1 update slated to roll out this September. We’ll keep our eyes peeled to see if Sony Ericsson announces whether all Xperia X10 devices will receive éclair in September, or only UK devices.
