T-Mobile’s Chief Marketing Office, Cole Brodman, reportedly confirmed to PCMag that the coveted Android 2.2 update for the Samsung Vibrant is ready to go and will commence starting tomorrow — January 21. This comes as good news for current Vibrant owners as rumors of a successor 4G device with Android 2.2 preloaded are swirling, causing many owners to second guess Samsung’s willingness to deliver Froyo to the original Vibrant. Interestingly, Brodman cites operational lag and some technical issues as the reason for the delay in deploying Android 2.2 across the country for the Vibrant. In fact, the critical update was ready to go in “late November,” but holidays delayed T-Mobile’s technicians from working out any bugs and kinks in the update until recently. T-Mobile will be the first American carrier to roll out Android 2.2 for its Galaxy S smartphone. Other carriers such as Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon Wireless have yet to announce possible release dates for Android 2.2.
