Anyone who regularly reads my articles knows I’m a Zombie fan, and doing a Best Android Zombie Games of 2012 list is a no brainer. If you love a good Zombie game get ready as the 10 games below are our picks for the best of the bunch from last year.
Armor Games made a splash this year when they released a very popular flash game for Android called Infectonator. Infectonator is a game of global domination as you try to take over the world on Zombie at a time. You’ll have several unique zombies at your disposal, and you’re going to need to use them to have a chance at beating the game. Zombies and Soccer are two things you generally don’t associate with each other, but the Super Awesome Hyper Dimensional Mega Team managed to combine the two into a game as cool as their name. Pro Zombie Soccer lets you go for the headshot with soccer balls or fun things like orbital weapons platforms… your choice. If you had a PC around as a kid chances are you played The Oregon Trail, and thanks to The Men Who Wear many Hats you can play a zombified version of the classic on your favorite Android device. You’ll travel West and you’ll get to do all sorts of cool things like scavenge for supplies, fight of dysentery, and hunt zombies of course. It’s a great reimagining of a retro classic, and it’s a game any Zombie lover should own. You can pick up Organ Trail: Directors Cut for $2.99 on Google Play.
AMC has done a great job promoting their shows through Android Apps and Walking Dead: Dead Reckoning is a fine example of that. It’s a “choose your own adventure” style of game that puts you in the role of good old Shane right after the walkers are unleashed upon the world. It’s a bit short, but it’s not your typical kind of Zombie game and it’s a must-have for any fan of the Walking Dead. Youc an pick up Dead Reckoning for free on Google Play.
5. Dead Trigger
If you like your Zombies in 3D then you’ll definitely want to give Madfinger Games Dead Trigger a look. This bloody shooter gives you all sorts of cool weapons to dole out destruction with and to say it’s one of the best looking games out there would be an understatement. It’s fun, it’s full of Zombies and it’s free to download on Google Play.
Spark Plug Entertainment’s Plight of the Zombie is a puzzling little Zombie game that switches things up by having you help the zombies. Each level is a maze of sorts where you’ll have to collect brains and convert humans into the undead. You can get the first 30 levels or so for free, and pick up additional levels through the IAP setup.
Gameloft tried its hand at the Zombie genre this year and as you’d expect, they hit it out of the park. Zombiewood is a dual-stick shooter with Hollywood flair as you’ll take on the undead on different movie sets. Zombiewood offers up 20 insane weapons, 11 different movies, and 10 unique game modes; the game is free to download, but expect a heavy dose of in-app purchases.
Artbit Games Shane Reaction puts you through 40 days of hell as you try to make your last stand against thousands of brain hungry Zombies. You’ll have a nice little arsenal at your disposal and while the game is a pretty straight-forward bullet fest random quick time events help to switch things up. There’s a free version of Shane Reaction you can try out and if you like what you see you can pick up the full version for $1.59.
9. Zombie Lane
Zombie Lane is a time-based Zombie game that has you defending your neighborhood against swarms of wandering ghouls. You can craft weapons, dress your character up, and the game has over 100 quests to take on. Prepare to put some time in if you pick this game up as you’re going to have a hard time putting it down. You can pick up Digital Chocolate’s Zombie Lane for free on Google Play.
10. Zombie Flick
Full Fat usually Wows us with their flick sports titles, but they switched things up this year with the 70s themed Zombie Flick. The game has you flick everything from Ukuleles to Frisbees as you try to stay alive and outlast the endless Zombie hordes. The game has a killer old-school grindhouse feel and it’s going to bring you loads of Zombie killing fun for $0.99.
