Top 10 New Android Apps of the Week – July 23, 2012

by On July 23, 2012

It was a better week for Android games than it was for apps, but we’ve still managed to round up 10 apps worthy of your attention. Without further ado, we proudly present our picks for the Top 10 New Android Apps of the Week July 23, 2012…

1. MixBooth

Pivi & Co. has become king of the “booth apps” and they’ve just put out a new one that looks like fun with MixBooth for Android. MixBooth basically takes your photo (or any photo) and merges it with another so you can merge two people into one. You’re bound to get a few laughs out of this one, and you can get it for free on Google Play.

2. Grandma’s Garden

Usually Noodlecake is throwing games our way, and while Grandma’s Garden is technically a game, it delves into app territory as it actually teachers the little ones a thing or two. The app won’t teach you how to break beans which is what I had to do in my Grandma’s Garden growing up, but it will teach your children shapes, colors, numbers, letters, and vocabulary. You can check out Noodlecake Studios Grandma’s Garden for free $0.99 on Google Play.

3. Autorap

AutoRap is another musical app from the folks at Smule who have already put out a similar app in Songify. AutoRap is all about the rapping though, and it will make you a fresh Mc full of lyrical skills. Well… probably not, but you have a good time playing around with this one with your buddies. You can check out AutoRap for free on Google Play.

4. Tom Hank’s Electric City

We’ve already talked about Electric City the game a few times, and up until a few days ago I had no idea there was an app as well. The Electric City app is kind of a hub for the series where you can check out comics, characters, behind the scenes footage, and episodes of course. Some content is free while other content is paid; it looks like an interesting app that’s definitely worth a look if you enjoy Electric City the Revolt, and yes that’s Tom Hanks voice in the intro. You can check out Tom Hank’s Electric City app for free on Google Play.

5. Fifty Shades of Grey quiz

As I’m a dude, and a manly man at that I’m not going to say much about this next one as I know next to nothing about it so this one’s for the ladies… The Fifty Shades of Grey Quiz puts your brain to the test by quizzing you on the extremely popular book Fifty Shades of Grey. There’s no doubt you gal’s will dig this one if you’re into the book and you can pick it up for $1.09 on Google Play.

6. Ambient Time Live Wallpaper

We try to touch on a few cool Live Wallpapers each week and this one definitely fits the bill. The Ambient Time Live Wallpaper is a new one put out by Sony Mobile Communications, and there’s not a lot to say about it other than it gives you the time and will look very cool on any device. The Ambient Time LWP is free to download on Google Play.

7. Friday

Friday is a social app of sorts that captures your life and changes the way you use your phone. The app builds a timeline of your daily life and lets you filter and search your life so you can find the events  and information you want. I haven’t tried this one myself, but I’ve been hearing good things about it so you may want to check it out if you’re into the whole social/life media thing. You can pick up Dexetra’s Friday for free on Google Play.

8. G Cloud Backup

G Cloud Backup is a new cloud-based backup app from the folks at Genie9. The app allows you to quickly and effeiciently back up your device including your texts, contacts, call logs, and most importantly your photos. There are plenty of backup apps out there, and this looks to be a good new one to try. You can check out G Cloud Backup for free on Google Play.

9. Photo Fun – Funny Pics Creator

If you enjoy sprucing up photos or making yourself or loved one’s look like a fool we’ve got just the app  for you. Photo Fun – Funny Pics Creator lets you easily create fake images and gives you lots of predefined pics to work with like statues, robots, devils, and monkeys. It’s easy to use, fun to have around your friends, and it’s free to download.

10. Jelly Bean Nexus Boot LWP

Jealous of those people running Jelly Bean? Want to front like you’ve got a Nexus running it on your outdated phone? If the answer is yes, then you’ll want to snag the Jelly Bean Nexus Boot LWP from Wasabi as it lets you run the Nexus Boot Live wallpaper on any device you choose. It looks great, and it’s free to download.
