A Review of Noodlecake Studios Ready Steady Bang for Android

Overview

I’ve always been a sucker for a good western, and The Quick and The Dead was one of my favorites. Ready Steady Bang is about as close as you’re going to get to a “Quick Draw” contest like they had in the movie, and while there’s no hot cowgirls in the game there is a quirky set of contestants.

Gameplay

Ready Steady Bang is a reflex game where you’ll put your skills to the ultimate test to see who’s got the quickest gun around. If you’re fast you’ll win and if you fire out of turn or are to slow your dead… pretty simple. Ready Steady Dead is a tournament of sorts that has you going up against the top 10 shootists in the world. You’ll start out with easy foes like Arthur Rightus and Van Queef, but will progress up to some very tough competition with the likes of Texas Slaughter and Aberdeen Bangus. The gameplay is simple; once you start a match you’re given three commands and one bullet. You’ll always hear Ready then Steady before “Bang” which is when you’ll want to tap the screen to shoot. The ready & steady always come at the same pace, but the “Bang” can be immediate or draw out where you’ll just have to wait for it. It’s a very simple concept and highly addictive as it gets pretty damn tough around the 8th guy or so.

Features

Ready Steady Bang gives you 10 opponents to test your skills against, and I have no idea how tough the last two gunslingers are as I’m stuck on Texas Slaughter at #8. As you progress through the game you’ll unlock different death animations; there are 31 in all and they range from head shots to nut shots and everything in between. You’ll also get “rewards” like newspapers, pistols, and booze although I’m not sure what effect they have if any. Last but not least if you get tired of whipping up on the Cpu (or getting whipped) you can play against a friend in 2 player mode with each one of you using one side of the screen. I didn’t’ try that mode on a phone, but it really worked well on my 10” tablet.

Verdict

Ready Steady Bang is a simple game with simple graphics, but it’s also a game that proves you don’t need a ton of levels or jaw-dropping 3D to have an awesome game. It’s also an addictive game as you want to take down the other gunslingers and beat your fastest times. I do wish there was some kind of online leadboard for speed as I think I’m pretty damned fast and would like to check my fastest draw (see the screens) against everyone else’s. Either way, if you’re looking for a great quick play game or are a fan of Western’s like me then Ready Steady Bang is just the game for you. You can pick up Noodlecake Studio’s Ready Steady Bang on Google Play for the low price of free.
