Borders Releases an Android eReader App, Kobo in Borders’ Clothing

Borders, one of the largest book distributor in the U.S., in the likes of Barnes & Noble and Amazon has just launched its online ebookstore. At the same time, Borders has also released its own ereader Android app. This app was previously available only for iPhone and BlackBerry.

With that Android owners who are into ebook reading on their Android phones now have another option for an ereader app. Borders eBook Android app adds to the current crop of ereader apps that include Kindle for Android, Kobo  and the not so popular Aldiko eBook Reader.

Does Borders’ eBook app matches up with the three existing eReader app for Android? Actually it does. Especially since, Borders eBooks is powered by Kobo. So, in case you will install it on your Android phone and notice that the interface including the options and menus are kind of similar to Kobo, well don’t be surprise because it is actually Kobo in Borders clothing, so to speak.

Interestingly, Borders eBook runs faster than Kobo. The first time I used Kobo, the Android app was slow unlike Borders eBook.

What’s important to note here is that the app lets you buy ebooks from Borders.com. So, you won’t really have a hard time finding some nice titles to read at your own leisure time.

Borders eBooks is available as a free download from the Android Market. Unfortunately buying ebooks is available only for U.S. customers.
